ARUSHA, Tanzania – July 6, 2026 – Zainab Ansell, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Zara Tanzania Adventures, has been honoured with the prestigious Tourism Legend Award 2025–2026 in recognition of her outstanding contribution to Tanzania's tourism industry over the past four decades.




The award was presented during the Malkia wa Arusha 2026 Awards, celebrating Ansell's visionary leadership, unwavering dedication, and lasting impact on tourism, conservation, community development, and women's empowerment.

What began as a modest tour operation has grown into one of Tanzania's leading tourism companies. Today, Zara Tanzania Adventures operates world-class safari experiences, Mount Kilimanjaro expeditions, hotels, and camps, welcoming thousands of visitors to Tanzania each year while creating employment opportunities for local communities.

A Legacy Built on Leadership and Service

For more than 40 years, Zainab Ansell has played a pivotal role in shaping Tanzania's tourism landscape. Her leadership has helped position the country as one of Africa's premier safari and adventure destinations.

Those who have worked alongside her describe her leadership as hands-on, compassionate, and deeply committed to both guests and employees.

Former tour guide Emmanuel Chao recalls one memorable incident when climbers were stranded at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro following severe weather.

"She didn't just give instructions over the phone—she came herself, wearing gumboots and carrying supplies. That's the kind of leadership that inspired all of us," he recalled.

That spirit of personal commitment continues to define Zara Tanzania Adventures today.

Transforming Tourism Beyond Business

Accepting the Tourism Legend Award, Ansell dedicated the recognition to the people who have contributed to the company's success.

"I accept this award with deep gratitude and humility. This recognition belongs to every member of the Zara family—our guides, porters, drivers, office staff, partners around the world, and the many guests who have trusted us with their African journeys."

Throughout her career, Ansell has consistently emphasized that tourism is ultimately about people. From mountain porters and safari guides to local communities, she has championed inclusive growth that benefits everyone involved in the tourism value chain.

Creating Lasting Community Impact

Beyond business, Zainab Ansell has become widely respected for her commitment to community development through Zara Charity.

Among its flagship initiatives is the Moshi Kids Centre, which provides education, nutrition, healthcare, and holistic support to vulnerable children in northern Tanzania.

What started as a community outreach initiative has grown into a life-changing programme that continues to inspire hope among disadvantaged children.

Educators at the centre say many children now dream of becoming leaders who positively impact society, just as "Mama Zara" has done.

Her vision continues to include expanding sustainable tourism experiences, strengthening community partnerships, investing in education, and creating new opportunities for young Tanzanians.
