ZARA TOURS ANNOUNCES SPONSORSHIP OF NGORONGORO MARATHON

Run to bring much-needed awareness to malaria-stricken communities

Tanzania, Africa – Zara Tours is proud to announce that it is acting as a sponsor of the seventh annual Ngorongoro half marathon, which will be held on April 19, 2014 in Arusha, Karatu. The 14 mile (21km) run is designed to draw attention to World Malaria Day, which will be observed on April 25, 2014. Some 189 international runners have been invited to participate.

Race coordinator Leila Ansell explained why drawing attention to malaria is essential, and particularly so in Tanzania, where malaria takes the life of one person every 10 minutes. “For communities to proactively control this disease, there is a great need to raise awareness, and we think through the Ngorongoro Run, we can spread this education to the people of Karatu.”

In addition to shining a spotlight on World Malaria Day, the race will benefit local communities as they’ll be provided with mosquito nets, malaria education, malaria tests and treatments, as well as caps and t-shirts.

Although the main event will take place on April 19, additional races and race activities will begin on April 18. The additional races to take place are a 10.5k run, a walk for the disabled and a 5k fun run for kids and families.

All registered runners will receive a t-shirt and refreshment. The top-three finishers are to receive certificates, medals and cash prizes. The first-place finisher will receive 1.5 million Tanzanian Shillings (TSH), the second-place finisher will receive 1 million TSH and the third-place finisher will receive 500,000 TSH.

Race sponsors include: Zara Tours, Zara Charity, TIGO, Orange Gas, Manjis Gas, Hance Paul, Simba Safari, Chuchu Bar, Equity Insurance, CRDB Bank, and Africa Safari
For race participants looking to capitalize on Zara Tours’ once-in-a-lifetime adventures, the company is offering a $50 discount on any safari or climb, including the wildly popular Kilimanjaro climbing excursions.
