An
experienced tour operator in the region Zainab Ansell is eyeing prospects of
hosting Formula E on the foothills of Mt Kilimanjaro. Ms. Ansell who is the
owner and director of Zara Tours, a renowned tour operating company in the
countries northern circuit exuded confidence that the sport can become the
latest tourism product as the country fancies five million tourists and
collects $6 billion by 2025. This is quite an interesting sport, we will be
more than ready should a chance present itself, said Ms. Ansell here recently,
during a European Investors in Tourism Dialogue here. The tour operator noted
that Tourism was hardly hit by COVID 19 Pandemic and that it was important to
explore other products as the sector recovers from the deadly virus. This will
be a new activity that I am very confident will catapult the industry to
greater heights, added Ms. Ansell, who was recently named as one of the top 100
executives by the Eastern Star Consulting Group for her role in supporting
Tanzania economic recovery in the devastation of the pandemic. Formula E, officially
the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, is a single-seater motorsport
championship for electric cars. Formula E’s founding mission was for its race
through the streets of the most iconic cities in the world - with a grid full
of the best racing drivers and teams around - to show just what sustainable
mobility was capable of, driving electric vehicles to the fore in the race for
a better, cleaner future. Speaking earlier, Tourism and Natural Resources
Minister Damas Ndumbaro challenged tour operators to capitalize on the
opportunity of hosting such high-profile motorsport. We’ve tried with Golf and
it's the turn of Formula E Tourism as we strive to lure in more tourists to the
country, said the Minister. The Executive Director of European Business Group
(EUBG) Cikay Richards on her part, underscored the importance of facilitating
constructive conversation among tourism stakeholders with a view of achieving
the government’s desired target. We need to harness the opportunities presented
in the tourism industry, she observed.
EUBG was formed in early 2015 and is a strategic partner for improving Tanzania’s business climate and promoting trade and investment between Europe and the East African country.
